I Am Terrific Award
The quarterly I Am Terrific Award is part of Centurion’s Recognition & Reward programme designed to provide recognition and encouragement for employees who have embraced and demonstrated our Core Values of Respect, Integrity, Creativity and Excellence in their day-to-day performance.
This quarterly award has piloted in Singapore where our Headquarters is located, in the third quarter of 2021. At the same time, we will be looking at ways to extend this award soon to our regional and global offices.
Through this award and other Recognition & Reward programmes, we hope to cultivate and energise the corporate values, culture and brand that make Centurion an ideal environment for professional and personal growth, while cultivating a lasting partnership between our employees and the company.

On October 16, 2023, Shariful received reports from residents about another resident found unconscious in the dormitory rooms. Upon arrival, he discovered the resident unresponsive and foaming at the mouth. Drawing upon his skills from prior training, Shariful immediately administered CPR, taking swift action to aid the unconscious resident. Concurrently, he alerted the operations and security team, prepared to assist in contacting emergency services if necessary. Thanks to his rapid and decisive intervention, the resident regained consciousness following successful CPR.
Shariful’s extraordinary actions extended beyond his job responsibilities, resulting in a life saved. In addition to his outstanding performance, his colleagues describe him as cheerful and the cornerstone of the team. Subsequently, they conducted a thorough search of the residents’ dormitory rooms, where they discovered a significant quantity of illegal substances prohibited on the premises. Adhering to protocol, they promptly notified local law enforcement and handed over the individuals and prohibited substances.

Xianbin astutely identified a unit with an imminent fire risk, as a resident had left cooking pots unattended with the gas stove still on. He promptly entered the unit, turned off the gas stove, evacuated the residents, and immediately reported the situation to the Dorm management. This swift response averted a potential fire disaster.
On September 27, 2023, Xianbin demonstrated his keen observation once again by identifying a unit where the glass window was nearly detached from the window frame. His prompt notification facilitated timely maintenance intervention, rectifying the defect and preventing a potential mishap. Xianbin’s exemplary vigilance and decisive actions contribute significantly to the safety and well-being of the residents.

The security team at Westlite Tuas Avenue 2 have shown a remarkable display of vigilance of coordination and assisted in apprehension of a wanted criminal on the property.
On March 22, 2023, a situation emerged involving the presence of an individual wanted by law enforcement authorities. Through the swift actions of our vigilant security personnel, the individual was discreetly located and safely handed over to the authorities. The team were able to deploy strategic positioning and seamless collaboration, ensuring the safety of the environment while facilitating the timely arrival of law enforcement officers.
Upon individually informing them of their nomination for the ‘I Am Terrific’ Award, each of them shared a common perspective about their roles. Islaa’huddin has been a Security Executive as part of the HQ GSOC security team since April 2021. He oversees security related compliance matters, and prides himself in being able to assist the security department with a highly efficient workflow and great competency.
Islaa’huddin has always gone beyond the call of duty to assist in security operations. Apart from shouldering his primary responsibilities as Global Security Executive, he has on numerous occasions assisted security operations in the dormitories during special events such as VIP visits and large scale events. Apart from that, he is always flexible and ready to cover for colleagues where ever resources are tighter. As one of the two in the facility team with maintenance experience, Jamal understands how to arrange his schedule based on level of importance. Gladys Chen, our Senior Accounts Assistant at Westlite Toh Guan joined us in 2015 as an Accounts Assistant. Gladys has a lovely personality and a smile that lights up the room. She is well recognised for her dedication and strong sense of commitment, often going above and beyond to support our colleagues.
For example, during the peak periods of high occupancy in the first half of 2022 Gladys had to manage a high volume of billings. She was in constant discussion with her colleagues to align on the submission process of documents to Finance. While on her marriage leave, she accessed Navision daily without fail to ensure the transactions keyed into system are up-to-date and completed before the closing deadline. Through her effective communication skills and good planning with the Operations and Enrolment teams, all documents were submitted to Finance on time and not underbilled.
Gladys also contributed to the smooth transition of a major project where she created new data recording formats for the Sales and Operations teams to input the necessary information to track and monitor customer’s electricity deposit and rental deposit.

Facility Engineer Wai Lin is the go-to guy who is always ready to help when you need him. Wai Lin joined Centurion in 2005 as an Assistant Engineer and was promoted to Facility Engineer. He welcomes challenges with positivity and believes that every experience is an opportunity to further his learning.
For example, he was recently tasked to handle the implementation of the new telephone system in our dormitories. There was an active telephone line subscribed by the dormitory that none of our colleagues could identify the usage of the line despite efforts spent on checking. Upon hearing that the line is to be terminated as it is unidentifiable, his investigative instincts kick in. He did a thorough check from point to point tirelessly and found out that the telephone line was used to connect our dormitory to our emergency alarm center. Without his persistence, we would have ended up terminating a very important phone line.
When implementing the new telephone system at Toh Guan, it was found out that a faulty switch in Toh Guan was causing a disruption to the network therefore, the new telephone system could not work properly. Wai Lin accepted the challenge of going on-site to replace the faulty switch. With the assistance of our colleagues at WLC technical support onsite, he successfully completed the replacement of the switch.

I Am Terrific because…
Security Executive Ashraf joined Westlite in June 2020 as a Security Officer and was promoted in September 2020 as a Security Executive. Ashraf has been managing security operations of 4 Quick Build Dormitories (QBD) single handedly without the assistance of in-house Security Supervisors on the ground. Under his watchful eyes, he responds to abnormalities and incidents, guarding our colleagues and residents at the dormitories. Ensuring their safety is his utmost priority.
He is recognised for his credible performance managing security operations well for all QBDs by his peers. With the absence of in-house Security Supervisors and only with the support of a fully out-sourced team, whenever there are incidents of concern after business hours, he will personally respond to site to manage these incidents which has happened on several occasions. Apart from that, Ashraf puts in additional effort by performing extra supervisory rounds after business hours, up and above the required frequency.

Jason and Azamullah, also known to colleagues as Azam, successfully prevented a major shipment of duty unpaid cigarettes from entering the dormitory.
On a night in July 2022, security officer Jason noticed a person behaving suspiciously in the lobby. Along with property officer Azam, they detained the suspect who was in possession of a large amount of duty unpaid cigarettes. In doing so, they put an end to the supplier of contraband cigarettes in the dorm. The suspect was arrested by the police and handed over to the Singapore Customs for the illegal cigarettes.
While taking swift action towards the suspect, Azam and Jason were also mindful of the attention which the situation had attracted. Both officers displayed high levels of professionalism, calmness, and respect when managing the nearby crowd, as they had the safety and security of residents in mind.
Property officer Azam is recognised as a good team player who always help the Security Team in their daily operations and assisting the Dorm Operation Team where necessary. He is firm yet polite when interacting with the residents and vendors visiting the dorm. Security officer Jason is a dedicated member who carries out his deployment diligently. Jason maintains a positive and friendly disposition despite facing challenges during the daily course of work. As such, he is well-liked by the residents and the dormitory team.

A conscientious staff who executes his duties well and remains calm during challenging times, security supervisor Thanabalan, affectionally known as Balan, had stopped illegal drug consumption from taking place. Even with heavy movement in and out of the dormitory, Balan was alert and conducted a bag check on the suspect entering the dorm. Due to his careful attention to details, Balan discovered the illegal drug apparatus.
Balan also leveraged on technology i.e. the dorm’s comprehensive CCTV system to investigate and detect suspicious activity which preceded the detection of the drug apparatus.
Westlite Accommodation has a zero-tolerance stance on drugs, and Balan is committed to maintaining a drug-free and safe living environment for our residents.
Balan is patient with colleagues and residents, and a valued team member who willingly guides new colleagues.

Hashimah Binte Hamzah is a highly valued member at Westlite Woodlands. In addition to her role as Customer Service Officer, Hashimah has gone over and above to help the team succeed.
For example, when the Covid pandemic caused a manpower shortage, Hashimah took the initiative to learn about operational processes and workflow to help with the enrolment of residents, and at other times facilitated the conveyance of affected residents for quarantine so they may receive timely healthcare attention. She also assisted the Sales team with sales enquiries and processing of client contracts. Her colleagues appreciate that Hashimah is always offering a helping hand when required.
As a Customer Service Officer, she is well regarded by both residents and customers for her high level of professionalism and service provided. She often receive praises for providing comprehensive information and going the extra mile to help.
Hashimah is not fazed by workload or pressure, and produces results for each tasks. With her strong sense of responsibility, her supervisor trusts her and does not need to constantly monitor the work assigned to her.

Security Executive Arivin was instrumental in managing security operations at Onboard @ Choa Chu Kang and Onboard @ Punggol throughout the operational tenure of both facilities. Having been newly promoted to Security Executive from Security Supervisor, Arvin stepped up to the challenge of overseeing the security operations at both properties, and discharged his duties exceptionally well.
Arivin successfully navigated a host of unknowns when Onboard centres were still new, with a fluid operational environment of evolving regulatory requirements. He also had to grapple with vendor issues to secure much-needed manpower in terms of quantity or quality. Due to Arivin’s tireless efforts, the security operations at both Onboard centres were managed smoothly.

Ann joined as a Digital Marketing Manager and was promoted to Senior Manager, Global Digital Marketing in 2022.
When issues arise that affect our digital marketing presence and performance, Ann steps up to solve the problems quickly regardless of day or time, while keeping stakeholders well informed in the process.
Many times, Ann has extended her problem-solving skills to areas above and beyond her regular workscope, making a difference to our teams and work around the world. For instance, when Keat Yee learnt about a new ride-hailing platform that could benefit the company, she took the initiative to identify the right department (HR) to make an introduction. Hock San took up the responsibility of establishing, training and setting up of an in-house cleaning team, and helped the company save an estimated 20% of the dormitory’s operating costs as the dormitory no longer need to engage an external contractor for cleaning duties.
The task of setting up this in-house team has been tedious, especially realigning the team mates on their new additional duties and roles as well as procuring equipment and supplies to fulfil the additional cleaning requirement. However, Hock San’s commitment and dedication made this in-house team possible, and not only increased efficiency in work delivery, but also helped lowered operation costs significantly.

Tim has been a valuable member of the MIS team especially in recent times. Apart from his day-to-day tasks, Tim has dedicated many late nights and weekends to assist our overseas entities with their IT needs – for example, assisting UK with IT support as well as working with external providers on server-related projects over the weekends to minimise disruptions during normal workweek.
In addition, he also extends assistance to the HR team with video conference and phone system set up and evaluation. To top it all, Tim even helped dormitories with cabling and network set up requirements, which has translated into cost-saving from engaging third-parties.

Lyan Chye, Ramesh and Roystan have joined our Westlite team prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, and despite the increase in stress and work demands throughout the pandemic period, they have stayed and served the dormitories dutifully and committedly and continue to be a valuable team member to date.
Due to the lack of public transport accessing to ASPRI-Westlite Papan’s location, Lyan Chye has to walk 1.5km to work and he never fails to be punctual regardless rain or shine. Ramesh is well-liked by both residents and the team as he always maintain a positive and friendly disposition despite facing challenges during the pandemic.
Ramesh always takes extra step to ensure the accuracy of processes and procedures, which helped maintain the integrity of security within the premise.
Roystan, despite receiving various job offers with higher salary package, chose to remain with Westlite regardless of the negativities surrounding dormitories during the pandemic.
Their perseverance and loyalty to the company are rarity in the industry, and we are pleased to recognise and thank them for their contributions with this award.

Emerson, Junaidi, Johan and Manoharan have been serving our Onboard @ Choa Chu Kang and Onboard @ Punggol facilities since the start of operations in March and April respectively. Due to the nature of these facilities, the resident management regime as well as movement protocols were constantly evolving, resulting in a high-stress work environment having to abide to the strict protocols. Despite the constant challenges faced on-site, these gentlemen remained steadfast in their commitment to us as their client, and stayed dedicated to their duties to date.
Through this I Am Terrific award, we hope to show them our appreciation for their contribution, dedication and the various sacrifices they have to make before their final lap of service as these facilities will cease to operate by the second half of 2022.

He takes initiative to understand the varying regimes’ requirements and ensured that the team is updated on the new processes.
Apart from being the pillar of support for the team and excellence in operation abilities, Hisham has displayed great sense of empathy, often seen walking the ground, talking to residents in isolation to better understand their needs.

With her dedication to providing excellent customer service, and her great teamwork and collaborative attitude, Sharmila has helped the team greatly throughout the pandemic period. Her commitment to excellence has also propelled her growth in the company from a Sales Administrator in 2015 to her current role as Customer Service Executive.
Sharmila’s meticulous nature and proactiveness have not only helped the operations with necessary reporting tasks, but also ensuring the wellness of our workers residents, as well as our employer clients. Many a times, Sharmila has went above and beyond to help employers with arrangements of essential errands during the restrictive period, and arranged for medical assistance for residents who were not able to seek medical help outside.

Shao Qing has displayed high levels of competency in her duties. Despite the change in business focus, Shao Qing was able to apply her previous experience and adapt quickly to the new requirements of her role, and ensure efficient production and delivery process are executed.
Even if short lead time is given, Shao Qing with her resourcefulness, was able to fulfil all orders coming from various customers and internal stakeholders. She has been a great asset for the team with her proven abilities in not only operations, but also in planning of production schedules, procurement of raw materials as will as meeting the delivery expectations of clients. These are testaments for her competency, as seen from her growth in the company from a Machine operator to Production Supervisor, Packing Assistant Manager and now an Operations Supervisor.

Logaisraja was on duty around 3 am in the morning when he noticed two persons behaving suspiciously while performing his usual monitoring duties.
He proceeded to approach these two persons, and upon questioning and investigation he found that the men were trying to trespass into the dormitory with intention to steal the residents’ bicycles that were parked within the compound. Logaisraja managed to detain the trespasser and due to his selfless dedication to duty, he has assisted in preventing loss of property and ensuring our residents have a safe and secure living environment.

Shah has created a manual workflow in addition to consolidating daily incoming and outgoing records despite it being outside his responsibilities which greatly minimised disruptions to operations when the system was not able to adapt to the multiple critical changes in time.
He also developed a reliable bookkeeping system, in addition to his various daily duties of residents’ management, inventory management and meeting authorities’ COVID-management requirements. He has also shown great leadership skills by undertaking the management of general workers and maintaining smooth communication between the team, the management’s directions, and the authorities’ requirements.

Suriyanti, or Yanti as her teammates affectionately call her, has earned the reputation of being reliable, trustworthy and always ready to help. Despite her family commitments, Yanti is always ready to fill in gaps even if it is out of her responsibility, and it is no surprise to see her handling Sales, Enrolment, Finance or even operation matters.
Yanti has also earned numerous commendations from employers for her timely and professional assistance to help them with their workers’ needs. On a particular evening, an incoming resident’s pass had expired. Yanti managed to help obtain a valid documentation despite after office hours and the employer was unreachable.

Victor has been instrumental in establishing a smooth communication and workflow between maintenance, housekeeping and the operations team. Owing to his dedication to streamline communication and workflow between departments, he has managed to shorten the turnaround time of 140 units in March and April, and reduced the time taken to rectify maintenance requests from three days to within 24-hours.
Despite language barriers, Victor has established clear communication processes between residents and the maintenance teams, which also included a close follow up to ensure defects have all been rectified.

Yaorong joined Summit CD in 2006 as a Machine Operator. In 2021, Yaorong took up the challenge and joined Westlite as Property Officer, taking care of residents’ requests and the communication between employers and the management.
Despite the lack of experience, Yaorong has been key in bridging communication between our key customers and the team. His dedication as a team player, patient and calm demeanor have earned him the reputation of a highly dependable teammate. Yaorong’s selflessness and willingness to undertake additional duties and work longer hours have helped relieve many operational pressures from the lean team.

As MWOC Punggol Northshore’s Customer Service Officer, Faeza (or more warmly known as Eza) has vastly improved the communications between employers, residents and the team. Her eagerness to help alleviate the pressure and apprehensiveness of newly arrived foreign workers serving isolation are evident with the significant decrease in employers’ dissatisfaction. Residents’ needs have also been met in a timely and accurate manner, with Eza’s efficiency in conveying the various needs to the operation team.
Eza has also been instrumental in ensuring that the administrative needs of MWOC Punggol Northshore have been managed and documented in accordance with authorities’ requirements.

I Am Terrific because…
Thoraisingam or Thor in short joined the company in 2019 as Customer Service Officer for our proprietary app, MyMA. In 2020, Thor was transferred to the dormitory and has been taking care of the enrolment since.
With his cheerful disposition and positive attitude, Thor has provided much relief to the team by volunteering for additional duties. He hand-created a large Kolam display for Deepavali and taken initiative to learn new skills that will smoothen work processes. He has also earned the reputation for his high-quality work, producing accurate reports and updates for residents’ movements between various in-dormitory facilities.

Father of a three-year-old son, Johnson came to Singapore in 2020 after leaving his Business Development Manager position in Chennai, in pursuit of a better future for his young family. Johnson’s professional skills and various dormitory exposure were put to good use in MWOC Punggol Northshore where he has been ensuring zero-error for resident’s database management system, which is critical in the operations of the COVID-19 management facility for foreign workers.
Johnson’s can-do attitude and strong team spirit have enabled operations to be smooth and won the trust from his team as a reliable teammate.
